Part 2: Hide your noisy Xbox 360 in your basement, Watch it in your bedroom

I have gotten many emails regarding my Hide your noisy Xbox 360 in your basement, Watch it in your bedroom post.

This post is just a follow up with images, taken after pulling the Cat5E wire from the basement to my attic and back down to my bedroom.

The image quality is not the best as the digital camera seems to live in my wife’s purse, so iPhone snapshots will have to do for now.

Reader Question: Macintosh to Xbox 360 Dashboard Video Playback Issues?

ilmpcmedia001From a facebook.com message:

Dear David,

I am trying to find the best/easiest solution to my issue.

I currently stream my media (mostly movies) from my PowerBook to my TV (a Vizio, of course) via an XBox360, a wireless networking adapter for the 360, and Yazsoft’s “Playback” as the software on my computer (http://yazsoft.com/products/playback/information/). It works just fine, but I keep most of my movies on an external hard drive. I’m not sure if it’s the wireless connection, the software, my computer, etc., but when I plug in the hard drive to my computer and try to stream from it, the movies do not stream well enough to watch. I was thinking about getting Apple’s 1 or 2 TB Time Capsule and plugging it directly into the XBox. Is this a viable solution? Regardless, what do you recommend as my best option here (keeping in mind I would like to try and not open up any walls if possible). Thanks in advance.

Converting MKV files with DTS Audio to Multichannel AC3 for use on Xbox 360 Extenders

Plaque_Dolby_Digital_lgAs you may be aware the Divx Tech Preview for Windows 7 Allows Xbox 360 extenders to play natively without transcoding MKV files.
However due to limitations of the Xbox 360, MKV files with DTS audio will not play properly.

However using a nice program designed to help Popcorn Hour users we have a pretty easy and quick fix for our MKV files sporting DTS audio.
