Wave goodbye to Google…..Wave

I have used Google Wave.

  • I played with it for a few days.
  • I tested it with friends.
  • I couldn’t find a purpose for it.
  • I have not logged in to it in well over a month.
  • I do not miss it.

I am not sure what problem Google was trying to solve with Wave. Perhaps they invented a problem, which no one really has and then developed a solution for that invented problem. Either way I am declaring Google Wave useless for the majority of Internet users.

Email is still communication king and will most likely remain that way, until we all have 2 way video communicators built in to our watches and phones.

Droids Returned. 18% discount at VZW be damned!

I just could not use the Droid.

Say what you will but in my opinion the iPhone beats the droid is every way (save some minor coverage differences in Cleveland, OH).

Regardless of the stellar savings offered by Verizon Wireless the devices have been returned and our remaining numbers on big red have now been ported over to AT&T.

After talking to a business rep we are now getting a 10% discount on service, and we have devices which are business usable!

Oh Well Android OS,  maybe next time.

Microsoft’s Windows 7 Priorities. Education! Education! Education!

Clearly a large part of Microsoft’s marketing strategy for Windows 7 is education and awareness of the new features in Windows 7.  This is contrary to what many of us might have thought.  I personally expected a much dryer campaign focusing on compatibility, stability and security.

For this, Microsoft are using video heavily with a slew of tutorials covering every aspect of ‘using’ Windows.  I say ‘using’ because they don’t cover installing or any advanced topics.  Instead they’re focusing on  having fun, being productive and introducing new features like multi-touch in exciting and engaging ways.

Why most small business owners hate their IT companies. A follow up post.

I think the title says it all. As an IT Consultant, I have rarely gone in to an office and been greeted with a smile or any sort of excitement to my presence.

I certainly have never heard anyone say how much they love their current, or past IT company, and that they were sorry to see them go.

But why is this? Are we not helpful? Do we not fix your problems? Do we not come up with brilliant solutions to the most daunting of tasks?

Based on being hired on as the “Replacement IT Guy” time and again, at many local small businesses, I can safely answer no on all accounts pretty regularly.

The stigma that IT professionals carry in most workplaces is a pretty terrible one.

New Digital Copies on the actual Blu-ray Disc from Sony exclusively for the PSP

Digital Copy stickerDigital Copies packaged in with DVDs and Blu-ray Discs are an old hat, but now Sony is adding a new twist. Up until now, a DVD was bundled in with a Blu-ray Disc just to deliver the Digital Copy. This way you could put the DVD into any PC or Mac and grab the Digital Copy of the main feature.

What Sony is doing now is something that was demoed at CES 2008, which is to store a PSP friendly copy, on the actual Blu-ray Disc. This way all you have to do is insert the disc into a PlayStation 3 and transfer it directly over to a PSP — no computer required.
