First MoCA 1.1 cable set-top-box gets certified

If you loved using the existing coax in your home to network your devices together at 110Mbps, then you’ll love MoCA 1.1 even more — testing has shown it can reach speeds of 175Mbps and up the number of participate devices to 16. The real challenge with MoCA right now though is that there aren’t many devices out there that support it and those that do cost a pretty penny — well worth it if you can’t run CAT5 cables though. Advanced Digital Broadcast, and Entropic made a little progress today however by getting the first MoCA 1.1 set-top-box certified, which we’re hoping is just the first of many devices to jump on the MoCA bandwagon. Because as cool as it sounds to have an Ethernet jack on the back of your HDTV or game console, it doesn’t do most any good because there’s only a coax cable running to their equipment.

Part 2: Hide your noisy Xbox 360 in your basement, Watch it in your bedroom

I have gotten many emails regarding my Hide your noisy Xbox 360 in your basement, Watch it in your bedroom post.

This post is just a follow up with images, taken after pulling the Cat5E wire from the basement to my attic and back down to my bedroom.

The image quality is not the best as the digital camera seems to live in my wife’s purse, so iPhone snapshots will have to do for now.

The Xbox 360 might be the worlds noisiest consumer electronics device, but don’t let it keep you up at night.

With some inexpensive parts and a little bit of elbow grease you can eliminate the noise factor by relocating the console to another area of your house.

In this basic guide I will show you how I put the noisy Xbox 360 that kept me up at night, in the basement on my equipment rack.

Parts List:

  1. Xbox 360 with HDMI Output ( You can do this with component or composite cabling as well but you will need to source different wall plates.)
  2. Monoprice HDMI over CAT5E/CAT6 wall plates
  3. Cat5E or Cat6 Cable, I also suggest Monoprice.com for this as well.
  4. IR Extender.  For this the choice is your but I happen to source a few from eBay, they arrived in about 7 business days from Hong Kong and work great.
  5. Some time to pull cable through your walls.

Basically the install went as follows.
