I get a call today from one of my clients to let me know that they have not gotten any faxes emailed to them as PDF files from GFI Faxmaker for over a day.
Figuring this was one of those run of the mill “issues”, I had them reboot their server and assumed all would be right with the world.
I was wrong.
The GFI Faxmaker monitor tool is pretty useless, I was getting errors listed about being unable to deliver mail because of a moved folder. No mention as to what that folder was though left me with only one real option, GFI’s own support forum.
I type in my search terms relating to the error I am dealing with a behold a wast number of other people experiencing the same thing. Great, I started reading posts, and came to the realization that plenty of people report the issue, but no one has a solution.
Well I started digging deeper, and browsed in to the GFI Faxmaker directory inside of the Program Files(x86) directory on their Windows Small Business Server 2008. I find the smtp log and see that exchange is throwing a unable to relay error.
Ok no problem I thought, new hub transport connector in Exchange 2007 management console should sort this out. It did not. WTF?
As I was running out of patience with this problem as it had been working without fail for over 5 months since it was first installed.
I decided I would do something insane, I uninstalled Faxmaker 14, and without doing anything else, not even a reboot, I re-installed it.
Boom problem solved! Why? I have no idea, but no one in GFI land seems to be able to resolve the issue at all, so I guess my fix is as good as any. The best part is, even though i removed Faxmaker, upon re-install it retained all of the settings.
Now to be fair, I suppose the issues could be Exchange 2007, as the GFI install does configure send & receive connectors for Exchange automagically.

Well it is neither a MSFT Exchange or GFI issue. Its seems to be an SMTP domain alias issue on your Faxmaker server. A quick fix is to go into IIS and go to Default SMTP VIrtual Server > Domain and Right click and create Domain > Alias and put in your sending domain i.e.: 'mydomain.local'. This should fix your issue immediately. Its seems that is must match the NDR and email domain.
