launch_partyYesterday Microsoft started sending out a finalist message – via email - to those who have been selected to host a Windows 7 launch party. So if you’ve signed up, check your inbox to see if you’ve received a message like the one that Sean Marshall got. If you’ve received one, it means that you’ve been chosen. But before celebrating, you still have two things to do:

  • Read the message carefully
  • Respond to it by clicking on the link included in the email

The second step is important as Microsoft spokesman Brandon LeBlanc explains in The Windows Experience Blog:

Receiving the finalist email doesn’t mean you’ve been accepted to host just yet. You will need to be among the first to respond via a link within your email to be confirmed as a host. This extra step is needed due to the amazing response we’ve had from people interested in hosting a Launch Party. Spots to host a Launch Party are limited so we want to make sure folks who signed up are still able to host.

After that you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail and then you can begin preparing for the party and sending invitations!

But What If…

If you aren’t lucky enough to host a Windows 7 launch party, whether it’s because you weren’t selected or Launch Parties aren’t available in your country, you can still hold your own Windows 7 gathering or “meet-up”.

Get a group of your friends or coworkers together and show them how everyday tasks are easier with Windows 7.

Although you won’t get a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, it’s still worth it if you’d like to show off Windows 7 to your friends, eat pizza and just have fun! Microsoft is providing several resources for those interested at Windows 7 meetup website. These include toolkits, a countdown widget to add on your blog, an event badge and numerous videos about Windows 7. The resources are classified under the same themes used in the Windows 7 launch parties: PhotoPalooza, Media Mania, Setting Up With Ease, and Family Friendly Fun. Good luck with your party or meetup.
